When To Make A Black Quilt
When it comes to quilting, certain colors can have certain connotations that you might want to contemplate next time you’re about to make a quilt. For instance, in the interior design world, black creates grounding with the overall sense of space.
Unfortunately, that isn’t the case when black is utilized on a quilt. A black quilt really represents desolation, mourning and death. But does that suggest it shouldnt be used-on the contrary. Everybody experiences some form of mourning or loss of a friend at sometime in their lives and using black as the quilt theme could be a way make a repeated reminder.
Here are a few ways to use black with other colors in your quilt design.
Black and Yellow
a great way of using black on a quilt may be to outline other colors that bring happiness-such as yellow. Yellow can represent the sunlight. Pairing black with yellow could mean you are recalling the good memories of a pal or family member that was lost.
Black and Blue
Blue is a relaxing color that represents the sky and water. A blue and black quilt could say that although you’re experiencing mourning, the one who died is in a peaceful place now.
Black and Orange
Splash in a touch of orange to bring out the feeling of security. Brown is often not advised as it could be a little depressing, but do not be hesitant to use it in little doses as it brings out natural feelings, trust and security.
Black and Red
Beware if you intend to use red as it’ll surely stand out. Naturally, red is a powerful colour representing, love, fire, fury and eagerness. if you’ve experienced the loss of somebody, red could maybe represent them and black will show that they have passed in a red and black quilt.
Black and Purple
Using the colours discussed above will create a gorgeous showcase of quilts. This next color can be displayed with the utmost elegance, purple. That’s right purple! It represents wealth, royalty, higher class. It may also mean love, unhappiness and wisdom.
It is completely up to you if you like to utilize a solid black as the theme. you could even spruce it up with detailed threading such as small squared thread work. Another new and modern way to use black is by also incorporate small amounts of white.
Black and White
Just black and white. White is a purity colour and when matched up with black will ground your room’s space. A patchwork quilt will create interest, colour and meaning, so play it up and don’t hold back when you are deciding on what colors to use. What matters is how it makes your feel.
